Hey!

My name is Ruth and I am the writer behind c’mon travel.

I’m always looking for, and trying out, new ways of ‘extending the adventure’.

I love to travel slowly and stay in places for longer. I find that I get more immersed in the local culture, more connected to the community and it is more financially sustainable.

I find that the slower you go, the longer you stay! Some people call this ‘slowmadding’.

I’ve travelled to over 20 and lived in 5 different countries.

I’ve learnt a lot about long term travel through this and want to share what I have leant to help other people do the same!

It is something I could talk for days about, so I though “hey, why not start a blog”!

To me the key to extending the adventure is minimising expenses (without minimising experiences!), learning to save and spend smartly and earn when travelling. I have experince with:

  • House and pet sitting
  • Working holiday visas
  • Inter railing
  • Work exchanges
  • Selling on Etsy
  • Living in an eco-village
  • Long distance hiking
  • Car camping
  • Backpacking in Asia, USA, Central America and South America

And there is even more for me to learn and experiment with such as remote work and exploring different ways to travel as I age out of the working holiday visa age bracket.

So, in this blog I hope to share what I know and also my experiments with new approaches to travel and sustaining myself on the road!

Some of my highlights over the years:

  • Living in a small town in the Canadian rockies for a year
  • A month long road trip around New Zealand – visiting Hobbiton twice!
  • Living on an organic farm in Alabama
  • Hiking the highest mountain pass in the world in Nepal
  • Seeing the Northern Lights in a small homestead in the Icelandic countryside with my Dad

Some things I want to explore and experience:

  • Remote working
  • Van-life/motorhome around Europe
  • Move to Norway
  • Teach English as Second Language (TEFOL/TESOL)
  • More long-distance hiking
  • Attend a meditation retreat
  • Explore India
  • Travel Africa
  • The list of places to explore is too long to write here!

If you want to conect send me an email through the contact page. I am not really into social media so don’t have an IG or favebook to share I’m afraid.

Happy travels and see you on the road,

Ruth 🌍✈️
